Visa & Travel
Do I have to book my flight/train myself?
Yes. All participants are responsible for their own travel bookings, travel insurance and visa applications. Participants are asked to apply for their visas in due time.
Do I need a visa for my stay in Germany and how do I get it?
Unfortunately, in general, citizens of very many Non-EU member states require a visa to enter Germany. For further information and regulations, please refer to the website of the German Federal Foreign Office.
You are responsible for your own visa application and we ask you to make sure you apply for your visa in due time.
We are happy to provide participants with a formal letter of acceptance to the Autumn School confirming the purpose of your stay. Nevertheless, please note that this does not guarantee that a visa will actually be issued. Unfortunately, YISARES 2020 does not cover any costs in connection with your visa application.
Will there be financial support for travel costs and how can I benefit from it?
YISARES does not cover costs of travel in general. However, you can apply for financial support in form of a refund of travel costs according to DAAD rates for travel allowances. Please, note that the number of travel allowances given are limited. Travel allowances will be granted depending on the number of applicable candidates and available funds. Unfortunately, participants based in Germany are not applicable for this funding. Double financing is not accepted. As funding will be granted according to the DAAD rates for travel allowances, the refund might only partially cover your travel costs.
In order to apply for financial support for travel costs, please make you sure you tick the relevant box in the application form. After you receive your letter of acceptance, we will discuss the details with you.
Please refer to the terms and conditions for further information.
For the visa application it is crucial that you give proof of income and proof of travel insurance. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) provides the possibility of a group contract for international insurance for health, accident and personal liability insurance while travelling (DAAD_Tarif 767). Please, find further information here: https://www.daad.de/en/study-and-research-in-germany/plan-your-studies/health-insurance/

Do I have to pay any costs for accommodation?

Should you, however, after receiving your letter of acceptance for any reason decide not to participate in the Autumn School or be forced to cancel, you must inform the organizers at least one week in advance, so that they can cancel your hotel reservation.
Do I have to pay any participation fees?
No. We do not charge any participation fees.
